Filipinos are known to be competitive in any possible field available. From beauty pageant, singing, boxing and more, name it there's probably a Filipino who dominated that field and even so, as years pass by, the field where Pinoys ruled the game keep on ranking high.
Just recently, a filipino who hailed from Malabon bested 1048 players in the USOP: World of Champions Poker2u Philippines Taiwan Series, winning the pot money of 6 million pesos. Edwin "Hit D Heat" Dela Cruz dominated other Asian opponents from Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia.
Masters Poker trained and honed his skill in poker. Dave Erquiaga coached and handled him, he recalled how "Hit D Heat" was just a non-pro gamer. It all started in 2019 during the pandemic, he was a late bloomer and learned via online poker. "At that time, natapat may promo yung isang app, yung top gamer dun ipapadala sa Japan then dun na nag-start na pwede pala siya gawing hanapbuhay."
Since he is not that good yet at the time, he would also be an agent to other poker players and eventually, he learned the art of playing and continues to master it as time passes by. It was probably destined for him to win since at that time, his bills are piling up and he already lost his internet connection.
Before the competition, Hit D Heat had a vision, He dreamt and saw a specific scene where he won and that's what he exactly did. He did not reach this monumental prize of 6 million simply through chance and speculation. On the contrary, sports like poker involve probabilities and statistics that skilled players use to guide their decisions.
Dave Erquiaga said that Hit D Heat is just one example of those key players who are determined to win not only for the game but for the sake of his family and future. This is what Masters Poker Team want to share to the public that poker is not what other think in the past that is pure evil and gambling. Poker is a sport where you engage optimal mind strategy and skill to dominate the field. You have to have a mental fortitude to overcome opponents and eventually be the top player. When they see the result of besting other players, in different countries, they will be proud to represent the country as well and not just glued on the pot money.
