Fans are about to witness a different side of Rico Blanco as the OPM icon steps into unfamiliar territory in the upcoming romantic-comedy film Project Baby opposite Sue Ramirez.

Set to hit cinemas nationwide on June 10, the newest offering from Regal Entertainment is already creating major buzz online following the release of its official trailer, which has now surpassed 6.5 million combined views across social media platforms.

Known for his music career and occasional dramatic roles, Rico admitted that accepting Project Baby was a personal challenge he never expected to take at this stage of his life.

“I was trying to push myself to do things outside of my comfort zone,” Rico shared. “Usually, performances and concerts lang talaga ako. So when this project came, parang gusto kong subukan something different.”

The singer-songwriter revealed that he instantly got excited after learning that the film was penned by acclaimed screenwriter Joey Javier Reyes and would be directed by Eric Quizon.

But what sealed the deal for him was the chance to work with Sue Ramirez.

“When I heard Sue was being considered for the role, nakita ko agad ‘yung possible chemistry namin onscreen. Tapos si Direk Eric pa. Mabilis talaga akong napa-yes,” he admitted.

Project Baby follows the story of Sandy, portrayed by Sue Ramirez, a successful and fiercely independent advertising executive who decides she wants to have a child — but without the complications of romance or commitment.

Determined to make motherhood happen on her own terms, Sandy creates a carefully planned arrangement to find the ideal “baby daddy.” Her search eventually leads her to Migo, an emotionally sensitive artist played by Rico Blanco, whose unexpected connection with Sandy slowly changes the rules of their agreement.

The film tackles modern themes surrounding career-driven individuals, unconventional relationships, and the pressure many women face about starting a family later in life.

For Rico, the project also marks his first time headlining a full-fledged romantic comedy — something he confessed initially made him nervous.

“Mas kinakabahan pa ako dito kaysa sa major concert,” he shared with a laugh. “Hindi kasi ito madalas kong ginagawa, kaya minsan parang hindi ako makapaniwala na nangyayari talaga.”

The 53-year-old artist also reflected on how surreal it feels to land a leading-man role in a Regal film at this point in his career.

“At this stage of my life, ngayon pa ako magkakaroon ng ganitong klaseng role. Hindi ko ito pinangarap before, pero dumating. Kaya sobrang grateful lang talaga ako,” he said.

Following the success of Almost Us and Shake Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins, Regal Entertainment continues to expand its lineup of emotionally driven crowd-pleasers with Project Baby — a film many viewers are already calling relatable, refreshing, and surprisingly heartfelt.

Social media users have also been praising the refreshing tandem of Sue and Rico, with many saying their chemistry feels natural and unexpected. Several viewers also expressed how deeply they relate to Sandy’s desire to become a mother while navigating modern dating and independence.

Aside from Sue Ramirez and Rico Blanco, the film also stars Alice Dixson, Matt Lozano, Arra San Agustin, Yasser Marta, Alex Calleja, Kimson Tan, Jazzil Sarinas, Charuth, Christian Ty, Drei Arias, and Jonathan Perez.

Project Baby opens in cinemas nationwide beginning June 10.
