MANILA — A new era for one of the capital’s most prestigious pageants has officially begun.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso on Thursday announced a major revamp of the Miss Manila pageant, highlighted by a historic first: the 2026 winner will automatically become the city’s official representative to the Miss Universe Philippines Organization.

The announcement was made during the pageant’s grand launch held at Diamond Hotel Manila on April 10, attended by members of the media, content creators, and key partners.

“This is a big opportunity not just for the winner, but for Manila,” Moreno said, emphasizing that the city’s representative will now have a direct path to the national stage—and potentially, the international spotlight.

Historic partnerships unveiled

The city government formalized its partnership with Empire Philippines, the organization behind the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, represented by Executive Vice President Voltaire Tayag.

Another highlight is the collaboration with Sparkle GMA Artist Center, which opens doors for the next Miss Manila to enter the entertainment industry.

Moreno shared that the initiative aims to empower candidates beyond the crown, giving them opportunities in both pageantry and showbiz.

Qualities of the next Miss Manila

Asked what he is looking for in the next queen, the mayor kept it simple yet meaningful:

“Dapat maganda, matalino, at talentado.”

He added that these qualities will help the future titleholder embody the “true beauty of a Filipina from Manila,” especially if she goes on to represent the country on the global stage

Search begins April 15

The search for Miss Manila 2026 officially kicks off on April 15, marking the return of the pageant following its last edition in 2024 under the previous administration.

Screenings will be held at the Tourism Information Center inside Manila City Hall, open to:

  • Filipino citizens with strong ties to Manila
  • At least 18 years old
  • Women of any civil status
  • No height requirement

Applicants must also demonstrate good moral character, strong health, and a passion for promoting Manila’s culture, tourism, and social causes.

More than beauty, candidates are expected to share compelling personal stories that reflect their connection to the city.

A platform beyond the crown

With bigger opportunities and wider reach, the revamped Miss Manila aims to produce not just a beauty queen—but a true ambassador of the capital.

As Moreno put it, the next Miss Manila could very well carry the city’s pride all the way to the stage, showcasing the strength, beauty, and story of the modern Filipina.
