Few filmmakers have captured the nuances of modern love in Philippine cinema as thoughtfully as Dan Villegas. Known for his emotionally honest and grounded storytelling, Villegas has built a reputation for creating films that resonate deeply with audiences—stories filled with sincerity, wit, and the quiet complexities of real relationships.

Over the years, he has directed some of the most memorable romantic films of the past decade, including English Only, Please, Walang Forever, and The Breakup Playlist. His films often highlight the subtle, intimate moments that define love and heartbreak, making his characters and their journeys feel strikingly real and relatable.

Villegas is also the co-founder of Project 8 Projects alongside acclaimed filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone. Together, they have played a significant role in shaping contemporary Filipino cinema through character-driven stories that reflect the realities, struggles, and joys of modern life and relationships.

His latest film, Almost Us, introduces a fresh love team to the big screen. Produced by Regal Entertainment and Project 8 Projects, the romantic drama stars former Pinoy Big Brother housemates JM Ibarra and Fyang Smith in their first full-length film together.

The film explores the bittersweet space between friendship and love—the “almost” relationships shaped by timing, choices, and the lingering question of what could have been.

Set to hit cinemas on May 6, Almost Us continues Villegas’ tradition of telling heartfelt stories that mirror the realities of modern romance—stories that remind audiences that sometimes, the most powerful love stories are the ones that almost happened.
