MANILA — What started as a simple dinner among friends turned into a hilarious and memorable moment for Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas after she became the subject of a surprise “marriage proposal” during a private gathering.
Ai-Ai was dining at a restaurant with fellow celebrities Ara Mina, Anjo Yllana, and Ynez Veneracion, along with Charo Cordial, founder and president of Maddox Jewelry, when the lighthearted surprise unfolded.
According to those present, the group was inspired by a real marriage proposal taking place at a nearby table. Amused by the romantic moment, they decided to stage a playful mock proposal for the veteran actress.
With the help of the restaurant staff, a gentleman soon approached Ai-Ai’s table, went down on one knee, and revealed a banner that read, “Will You Marry Me?”—prompting laughter and cheers from the group.
To make the moment even more convincing, a diamond ring from Maddox Jewelry, provided by Cordial, was presented during the staged proposal.
Ai-Ai appeared both surprised and amused, laughing throughout the entire moment as those around her captured the scene on video. The playful “suitor” even capped the act with a quick kiss on the actress’ forehead, drawing even more laughter from the table.
Cordial gamely joined in on the surprise, adding to the lively and warm atmosphere of the evening.
While the proposal was purely done in jest, the moment highlighted the strong friendship among the group. At one point, Ai-Ai even joked that the diamond ring used in the mock proposal might not be returned.
