A love that defied fear. A woman who refused to be forgotten.

This November 5, Philippine cinema will witness the long-awaited arrival of Lakambini, a decade-in-the-making historical romantic epic that breathes life into the story of Gregoria de Jesus — the fierce and devoted “Lakambini ng Katipunan.”

Lovi Poe takes on one of her most important roles yet as Ka Oryang, delivering a performance that is powerful, emotional, and deeply human. Opposite her is Rocco Nacino as Andres Bonifacio, the Supremo who fought for independence — and Oryang’s first great love.

Also joining them is Paulo Avelino as composer Julio Nakpil, Oryang’s second husband, whose presence brought new light into her life after immense tragedy.

Film icon Gina Pareño and celebrated actors Elora Españo and the late Spanky Manikan round out the exceptional cast — each giving raw, honest portrayals that honor the real heroes behind the pages of our history.

A Story of Love, Loss, and Unbreakable Strength

Lakambini is more than a historical film — it’s a look into the heart of a woman whose bravery shaped our nation. Even after Andres’ death, Oryang never gave up on him. She searched endlessly for his remains, fueled by love and the belief that he deserved justice.

Ganito kalalim ang pag-ibig at tapang ni Oryang.

Ganito kahalaga ang kanyang kuwento.

This film reminds us that history is not only about battles — it’s also about the women who stood their ground and kept the fight alive.

During the Lakambini Press Conference and Advanced Screening at the UP Film Center, the theater echoed with laughter, tears, and applause. It was a night of unity, honoring the bravery of women whose stories are seldom told.

Hindi lang siya Lakambini ng Katipunan — siya ay isang babaeng nagmahal nang lubos.

The family of Gregoria de Jesus expressed deep appreciation — seeing parts of their history they themselves never knew, brought to life with respect and heart.

In a time when many young Filipinos are rediscovering our nation’s past, Lakambini arrives at the perfect moment. Director Arjanmar Rebeta and Executive Producer Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil, along with co-producers Jeffrey Jeturian and Khaye Medina, hope the film inspires curiosity and pride in the Philippines’ history.

“Why don’t we look at the birthing of the nation from the point of view of a woman?”

This production boldly mixes cinematic storytelling with real historical accounts — ensuring Oryang’s truth is seen and felt.
