QUEZON CITY — A Korean superstar actor and a soon-to-be-revealed Filipina leading lady are set to bring kilig to the big screen in an upcoming film helmed by acclaimed South Korean director Nam Ki Hoon.
The project was officially announced during an intimate mediacon held at Tryst & Co., attended by Korean producer Ilho Lee and Tristan Cheng of Trifecta Brand Lab.
While the male lead remains under wraps, the production team teased that the role will be played by a Korean superstar with a massive following both globally and in the Philippines.
Cheng further heightened anticipation, saying:
“We are working to bring the best—someone you are very, very familiar with. Someone from past shows you’ve been watching, including the big screen.”
Meanwhile, the search for the Filipina lead continues. The team is currently in talks with major television networks and is considering holding auditions to find the perfect match—an actress in her late 20s with a bubbly personality, strong screen presence, and solid fan base.
More than just a love story, the film draws deep inspiration from Filipino culture—particularly the spirit of bayanihan.
Director Nam Ki Hoon revealed that witnessing the resilience and unity of Filipinos during an earthquake in Cebu left a lasting impression on him and ultimately inspired the project.
He shared that the bayanihan spirit is a unique and moving cultural trait he hopes to highlight through the film.
“The Philippines is often portrayed as a dark place where a lot of unfortunate things happen. I want to break that perspective and show the world that Filipinos are kind and have a warm heart,” he said.
“I noticed Filipinos have so much love to give to others. This project will show the good side of the Philippines—how warm and passionate the people are. I’m excited to express that positivity through the film.”
The romcom follows the story of a Korean superstar who grows weary of his career and returns to the Philippines to reconnect with his childhood memories—where he eventually meets a Filipina who changes his life.
Blending romance, humor, and heartfelt moments, the film aims to resonate with audiences across cultures.
Showcasing the Philippines to the world
Beyond its narrative, the film also seeks to spotlight the Philippines as a global destination. The team is currently scouting scenic, lesser-known locations that will showcase the country’s natural beauty, rich culture, local cuisine, and the warmth of its people.
Production details, including the final cast, shooting schedule, and release date, are still being finalized as the script undergoes further development to better connect with Filipino audiences while maintaining international appeal.
Director Nam Ki Hoon is known for his work on hit Korean series such as Big Bet, Kiss Sixth Sense, and Confidence Queen, further raising expectations for the film.
With a powerhouse collaboration, a meaningful inspiration, and a mission to showcase the heart of the Filipino people, the upcoming project is shaping up to be a must-watch for both local and global audiences.
Abangan!
