Opens in cinemas nationwide on December 10

A fresh, heartwarming musical is about to capture audiences this holiday season as award-winning actress Gladys Reyes takes center stage in “The Hearts of Music,” a family drama inspired by the timeless classic The Sound of Music. Known for her legendary kontrabida roles, Reyes surprises fans with an entirely new side, proving she can charm, sing, and uplift just as powerfully as she can intimidate.

And yes — even Gladys herself joked about her unexpected transformation.

she laughed when asked about portraying Madonna, a bubbly, curly-haired nanny in the movie.

A Musical Filled With Heart — and Plenty of Surprises

Directed by Italian filmmaker Paolo Bertola, The Hearts of Music follows the story of Madonna, a cheerful breadwinner who becomes a nanny to the eight children of Frank and Diana Riviera, played by seasoned theater icons Robert Seña and Isay Alvarez. After being scammed by an illegal recruiter, Madonna pretends she left for abroad just so her father (PJ Abellana) won’t worry — setting off a journey of lies, laughter, and heartfelt revelations.

The film blends musical charm with Filipino warmth, tackling real-life issues such as school bullying, family struggles, and the courage it takes to rebuild one’s life. It also gives Reyes the chance to unleash a talent many viewers rarely see from her: her powerful singing voice.

Gladys shared that she took voice and piano lessons to prepare for the film:

“Nahihiya ako kina Sir Robert at Ate Isay,” she admitted. “Nag-set agad ako ng appointment sa voice lessons… gusto ko kahit papaano, prepared ako sa mga musical scenes.”

A New Look, A New Gladys

Another unexpected twist? Gladys’ striking, super-curly hairstyle — a decision crafted by scriptwriter Mario Alaman to give audiences a refreshing version of the actress.

“Gusto talaga ni Sir Mario ng different look. A different Gladys na masa-shock sila,” she revealed.

Even she laughed at her transformation, saying, “Aba! Iba! Parang may gulat factor.”

The cast also includes Marissa Sanchez as Madonna’s equally curly-haired mother, Jon Lucas, Angel Guardian, Sean Lucas, Noreen and Markhy, Jopay Paguia, Joshua Zamora, and more.

The film held its premiere night on October 23, attended by Reyes’ family and close showbiz friends, including Carmi Martin, Kokoy de Santos, Vina Morales, and Neil Ryan Sese.

Short Review

The Hearts of Music is an entertaining, feel-good movie that’s easy to enjoy from start to finish. Seeing Gladys Reyes in a light, comedic, and musical role is incredibly refreshing — like watching a seasoned actress rediscover her joy onscreen. Her performance is warm, funny, and sincere, and the musical sequences bring a nostalgic charm reminiscent of classic family musicals.

It’s a delightful watch for fans of music, family stories, and anyone excited to see Gladys shine in a whole new way.

Catch The Hearts of Music in cinemas nationwide this December 10 — a movie that promises laughter, music, and a whole lot of heart.
