Quezon City, December 4, 2024 – The highly anticipated grand launch of Isang Himala, a fresh adaptation of the legendary 1982 film Himala and its 2003 musical version, brought together a celebration of timeless storytelling, powerful performances, and unwavering faith. As one of the official entries to the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), this new retelling is poised to captivate audiences this holiday season.

The star-studded event featured the cast and crew of the film, with Aicelle Santos taking center stage as Elsa, the role originally brought to life by National Artist Nora Aunor. Directed by MMFF Best Director awardee Pepe Diokno and penned by the iconic National Artist Ricky Lee, Isang Himala reimagines the story for contemporary audiences while preserving the essence of the original. Joining Santos were esteemed cast members Bituin Escalante, Kakki Teodoro, and David Ezra, among others.
A Glimpse of Faith and Struggle

The event unveiled the film’s official trailer, offering a breathtaking preview of the fictional Baryo Cupang. The trailer showcased the film’s stunning visuals, emotionally charged sequences, and a climactic moment where Nora Aunor’s iconic voice reverberated through the room, evoking chills and nostalgia.

National Artist Ricky Lee shared his thoughts on why the story remains relevant in today’s context. “This adaptation is a tribute to the original 1982 film and the 2003 stage musical. Over the years, Himala has taken many forms, and I believe it will continue to evolve as we tell stories about miracles,” Lee remarked. He emphasized how Isang Himala speaks to modern audiences who are still searching for hope and meaning in uncertain times.

Director Pepe Diokno, fresh from his MMFF Best Director win for Gomburza, expressed his passion for this adaptation, focusing on the emotional depth and humanity of the characters. “This film explores the complexities of faith, human desire, and the darker sides of hope,” Diokno shared, inviting viewers to reflect on their beliefs and choices.
Unforgettable Performances

Aicelle Santos delivered a powerful rendition of the song Gawin Mo Akong Sining, bringing Elsa’s struggles and convictions to life. Her emotional performance moved the audience to tears and offered a glimpse into the raw intensity she brings to the iconic role. Santos shared how portraying Elsa challenged her as an artist, inspiring her to honor the original while infusing the character with her own interpretation.

Bituin Escalante, who plays Elsa’s mother, expressed gratitude to the producers for championing meaningful stories. “This film reminds us of the importance of telling narratives that resonate with the soul,” she said.
