This Christmas, Philippine cinema takes center stage with the highly anticipated release of Uninvited, the official entry of Mentorque Productions to the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Featuring a stellar cast led by the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, multi-awarded actor Aga Muhlach, and versatile actress Nadine Lustre, this gripping thriller-drama promises to be the cinematic highlight of the year.
Bringing together three of the country’s finest actors, Uninvited is a testament to the Filipino film industry’s creativity and excellence. Producer Bryan Dy admitted that assembling this dream cast came with a hefty price tag, but he emphasized that the film was designed to offer moviegoers a truly extraordinary experience.
“With ticket prices soaring, audiences deserve something special,” Bryan shared during a recent MMFF event. “People should feel that every peso they spend on a movie is worth it. That’s why we took this big risk.”
This sentiment is reflected in every aspect of the production, from its exceptional cast to its ambitious storytelling. Directed by Dan Villegas, known for his masterful storytelling, and written by celebrated screenwriter Dodo Dayao, Uninvited is a film crafted to leave a lasting impression.
Nadine Lustre, known for her romantic comedies and drama roles, ventures into uncharted territory in Uninvited. She plays Nicole Vega, a troubled character who engages in vices and harbors deep resentment toward her father, portrayed by Aga Muhlach.
“This role is a complete departure from what I’ve done before,” Nadine explained during the film’s grand media conference. “I wanted to show a different side of myself as an actress. It’s intense, raw, and very challenging.”
Despite the heavy material, Nadine recounted light-hearted moments on set, especially with Aga Muhlach. “After a very serious scene, Kuya Aga would always throw in an ad-lib that would make everyone laugh. It made the experience so much more enjoyable,” she shared.
A Dream Role for Vilma Santos
For Vilma Santos, Uninvited is more than just another project—it’s the fulfillment of a long-held dream. As the mastermind behind the story’s concept, she worked closely with the creative team to develop the film’s gripping plot.
“This has always been my dream project,” Vilma revealed. “I’ve always wanted to create a film that unfolds within 24 hours, where everything starts perfectly but descends into chaos. The team did an amazing job bringing this vision to life.”
Her character, Eva Candelaria, is a mother on a mission for justice against the man who destroyed her family. It’s a role that required emotional depth and intensity, qualities that only the Star for All Seasons could deliver.
Uninvited tells the story of Eva Candelaria (Vilma Santos), a grieving mother who attends the lavish birthday party of Guilly Vega (Aga Muhlach)—the billionaire responsible for her daughter’s murder. Disguised as a socialite, Eva seeks to exact revenge. As the night progresses, secrets unravel, and the line between victim and villain blurs. Nicole (Nadine Lustre), Guilly’s enigmatic daughter, adds another layer of intrigue to the story.
This MMFF golden anniversary entry is more than just a movie; it’s a celebration of Filipino artistry. The star-studded ensemble includes RK Bagatsing, Mylene Dizon, Lotlot de Leon, Gabby Padilla, Elijah Canlas, Ketchup Eusebio, Gio Alvarez, Cholo Barretto, Ron Angeles, and Tirso Cruz III. Backed by Warner Bros. Pictures and crafted by Mentorque Productions in collaboration with Project 8 Projects, Uninvited is poised to set new standards in Philippine filmmaking.
Uninvited premieres nationwide on December 25 as part of MMFF 2024. With its riveting storyline, breathtaking performances, and production value rivaling international films, it’s a must-watch this holiday season.
