Uprising star Geraldine Jennings is making her mark in the Philippine entertainment industry with her debut single, "If I Will Ever Love Again," and her upcoming film "Isla Babuyan." The Irish-British-Filipino singer and actress is fully committed to pursuing her career in showbiz while also balancing her education. Jennings, who is currently studying economics and finance at the University of London, is determined to complete her degree in two years before diving headfirst into Philippine showbiz.
During a recent press conference in Timog, Quezon City, Jennings spoke about her excitement for her new projects. Her latest single, "If I Will Ever Love Again," a heartfelt Ogie Alcasid composition, has been gaining attention. The track, which was also used in her film "Isla Babuyan," showcases her vocal prowess and emotional depth. During the event, she performed the song live for the first time, impressing the press with her soulful rendition.
Jennings' entry into acting is equally exciting. In her debut film *"La Isla Babuyan,"* she stars as Anastassia, a half-Filipina, half-European young woman who returns to the Philippines to reconnect with her mother, played by Lotlot De Leon. The film, now in post-production, follows Anastassia's journey as she falls in love with Jordan, the heir of a wealthy family, portrayed by Jameson Blake. However, their relationship is met with resistance from Jordan's stepmother, played by Nathalie Hart, who will stop at nothing to keep them apart.
Inspired by the Spanish classic "Jamon, Jamon," the film weaves a story of love, family, and societal struggles, with a screenplay by Jessie Vilabrille, co-conceptualized with Leo Dominguez and Bam Salvani, and directed by Abdel Langit. Jennings shared her experiences working on the film, describing her co-star Jameson Blake as "very professional" and "super helpful." She also praised Lotlot De Leon for her guidance during the emotionally challenging scenes, where she had to dig deep to deliver powerful performances.
Despite the language barrier, Jennings found her role as Anastassia manageable, as her character predominantly speaks in English. "Since my character is from Europe, I didn’t need to speak straight Tagalog, which made it easier for me," she said, adding that the dramatic scenes, especially those requiring tears, were her biggest challenge.
As she navigates her budding career, Jennings expressed her admiration for local talent, particularly actress Kathryn Bernardo. she hopes to work with Bernardo in the future.
With her undeniable talent in both music and acting, Geraldine Jennings is poised to become one of the most promising newcomers in the Philippine entertainment industry. Keep an eye out for her single *"If I Will Ever Love Again" and her film "Isla Babuyan," which promises to showcase her versatility and dedication to her craft.
