Direk Paul Soriano aims for PERFECTION and that is what the movie FIRST LOVE achieved. His vision of perfecting a masterpiece translate on this movie. Something we Filipino should be proud of since we can produce a quality film that has a global appeal.
Affectionate performances and sensitive smart writing propel this heart-wrenching tearjerker about two people living with illness crossed into the starry realm of iconic film romances. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and all the while you’ll find yourself totally engrossed and entertained.
Nothing beats the performances by Aga Muhlach and Bea Alonzo – probably the two best reasons to see this film. I love their chemistry, the sweetness of their exchanges, and the stakes set up by their illnesses and friendship. In this film it’s easy to care about the stakes of their relationship, as well as their mortality. It’s a rather sad, and unconventionally dire story, but one that is worth telling, and does justice to all those living with illnesses and in love.
First Love delicately reminds us to live and love honestly and fully, while we all still have that GIFT.
