Bring out
the tiara, because there is a new Miss Universe Philippines to crown.
At the beginning
of tonight's pageant, 39 women from across the country competed in the
annual competition. But as so many viewers know, only one woman can walk away
from the Binibining Pilipinas 2018 as the Miss Universe Philippines
winner.
Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray from Albay was on
hand to crown the winner from Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. During
the competition, the 24-year-old wowed the judges with her brains, beauty and
charisma. After Miss World, Catriona Gray is set to conquer the Miss Universe
stage. Catriona was among the top five finalists in the Miss World 2016
pageant.
In the Q&A round, United States
Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim asked for her message to the women of
Marawi.
"My answer and my message to the women
is to be strong. As women, we're the head of household and we have amazing influence,
not only in our own families, as mothers, sisters and friends, but also in our
community. If we can get the women to stay strong and be that image of strength
for the children and the people around them, then once the rebuilding is
complete and underway, the morale of the community will stay strong and high,"
Tonight's judges included Edgar Saavedra, Mike Brown,
Gerald Anderson, Alyssa Valdez, Martin Lopez, Thirdy Ravena, Colombia
ambassador Victor Echeverri, Precious Lara Quigaman, Ces Oreña-Drilon, U.S.
ambassador Sung Yong Kim, Conchitina Sevilla-Bernardo, Besty Westendorp-Brias,
Raymond Villanueva, and Stella Marquez-Araneta.
